Job Title: Clinical Lab Scientist

Job Duties:
 
• Correctly verify that the proper specimen is being analyzed for the correct patients and that the correct test is being performed.
• Judge the adequacy and qualities of specimens submitted for testing.
• Analyze clinical laboratory specimens following the standard methods and procedures approved by the Laboratory Director or designee.
• Responsible for maintaining updated understanding and knowledge of the methods employed in the laboratory and the use of the resulting information by physicians through experience and continuing education activities.
• Perform quality control procedures to ensure accuracy of clinical data.
• Utilize test reference ranges to determine reasonableness of test results.
• Validate test results through correlation with test parameters.
• Confirm testing on all Critical Values to ensure accuracy prior to releasing of test results.
• Participate in the updating of departmental standard operating procedures and database to accurately reflect the current practices
• Perform routine preventative maintenance and troubleshooting on assigned instruments and equipment according to established schedule and procedure.
• Perform and document instrument function by checking and calibrating specific lab instruments and document data.
• Record on instrument logs any repairs, replacement, and maintenance needed of equipment.
• Release or report results per Laboratory Standard Operating Procedures.
• Perform Proficiency Testing Samples (CAP) and Alternative Proficiency Testing Samples (In-house)
• Assist with Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement activities consistent with the Laboratory Quality Plan.
• Ensure compliance with all regulatory agency requirements through documentation, audits, and corrective action.
 
Requirements: Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Clinical Molecular Science, or related fields.
Require 2 years of experience as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist.
Required experience in:
• Using Hamilton machines in different assay programs.
• ELISA scanner.
• IFA programs and instruments such as Helmed & Sprinter XL.
• Running ELISA assays.
• Interpretation of ELISA plates.
• Running Western blot tests.
• Interpretation of Western blot strips.
• Running Immunofluorescence assay (IFA) such as Paraneoplastic Panels.  
• Reading Immunofluorescence slides for Paraneoplastic Panels.
 
Require Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) License by California Department of Public Health (CDPH)
 
Annual Salary: $125,000 - $159,120
