Chemically it pairs a d18:1 sphingoid backbone with a 16:0 (palmitic) fatty acyl chain; that precise composition influences how the molecule behaves in membranes and signaling pathways.
Over the past decade, specific ceramide species including Cer(d18:1/16:0) have been studied as biomarkers in cardiovascular and metabolic research. Laboratory and clinical studies have linked shifts in ceramide profiles to altered lipid handling, cell stress responses, and processes that affect vascular health, making them useful for high-resolution lipid phenotyping in panels like Cardio Zoomer.
Interpreting Highs and Lows
Higher Cer(d18:1/16:0) levels are associated with patterns of metabolic strain, altered lipid particle behavior, and biological signals tied to vascular stress and inflammation.
