Overview and History
CORIN is a human gene that encodes corin, a type II transmembrane serine protease expressed largely in cardiomyocytes. Corin’s primary biochemical role is to cleave and activate precursor forms of atrial and B-type natriuretic peptides, hormones that promote natriuresis, vasodilation, and regulation of blood volume.
The listed variants include common single-nucleotide polymorphisms (rs2271037 and rs3749585) and missense changes (T555I/rs75770792 and Q568P/rs111253292) that substitute amino acids in corin’s sequence.
