Anti-Zonulin refers to circulating antibodies (measured as IgA and IgG) that bind to zonulin, a human protein identified in the early 2000s as a modulator of tight junctions between epithelial cells. Zonulin is a biochemical regulator of paracellular permeability and is studied as a key mediator of interactions between the gut lining and the immune system. Because zonulin influences how tightly intestinal cells connect, antibodies against zonulin are interpreted as markers of immune recognition of that protein or related molecules.
