Overview and History
Arugula (Eruca sativa) is a leafy vegetable in the Brassicaceae (mustard) family. Botanically related to mustard, kale, and broccoli, arugula leaves contain plant proteins, enzymes, and sulfur-containing glucosinolates that contribute to flavor and plant defense.
From a biochemical perspective, arugula presents a mix of whole-food proteins, peptides, and small molecules that can be antigenic in some people. Food-focused antibody testing assesses binding to these proteins and peptides to map exposure-related immune patterns at both mucosal and systemic levels.
Interpreting Highs and Lows
Elevated IgA responses to arugula often reflect recent or ongoing mucosal exposure and local immune engagement in the gut; elevated IgG responses suggest systemic immune recognition or repeated exposure. Low or absent antibody levels may indicate immune tolerance, limited recent exposure, or no measurable humoral response. All results are best interpreted in the context of the full Food Zoomer panel, clinical history, and symptom patterns; cross-reactivity with other Brassicaceae or pollen can affect patterns.
