What is Mono-(2-ethyl-5-oxohexyl) Phthalate (MEOHP) And Why Does the Hormone Zoomer Test for It?

Urinary phthalate exposure metabolite
MEOHP is a urinary metabolite produced when the plasticizer DEHP is processed by the body. Measuring MEOHP shows recent internal exposure to DEHP and helps link environmental chemical burden with hormone metabolism and stress markers in the Hormone Zoomer.

Mono-(2-ethyl-5-oxohexyl) Phthalate (MEOHP) FAQs

What is Mono-(2-ethyl-5-oxohexyl) Phthalate (MEOHP) and why is it important?
MEOHP is a breakdown product the body makes after contact with DEHP, a plasticizer found in many materials. It shows up in urine and reflects recent internal exposure. Because phthalate exposure can relate to changes in hormone metabolism and stress biology, measuring MEOHP helps connect environmental exposure to the hormonal patterns the Hormone Zoomer assesses.
What does it mean if my Mono-(2-ethyl-5-oxohexyl) Phthalate (MEOHP) levels are low?
Low MEOHP levels usually indicate low recent exposure to DEHP, or they may result from when the sample was collected, urine dilution, or rapid metabolic clearance. Low values do not prove absence of any past exposure and are best interpreted with creatinine or specific gravity and the rest of your panel results.
What does it mean if my Mono-(2-ethyl-5-oxohexyl) Phthalate (MEOHP) levels are high?
Higher MEOHP indicates greater recent internal exposure to DEHP or altered processing of that chemical. In clinical studies elevated phthalate metabolites have been associated with shifts in hormone metabolites, stress markers, and oxidative stress, but interpretation requires the full Hormone Zoomer context and clinical correlation.
Why is this biomarker included in the Hormone Zoomer?
MEOHP provides an objective measure of internal DEHP exposure, allowing providers to assess whether environmental chemical burden aligns with changes in hormone metabolism, cortisol rhythms, or oxidative stress. Including it supports more targeted interpretation of hormonal patterns and exposure-related signals.
