Anti-Myelin proteolipid protein (PLP) antibodies are autoantibodies directed against PLP, a proteolipid found abundantly in the membranes of myelin produced by oligodendrocytes in the central nervous system. PLP is a hydrophobic membrane protein that contributes to the compact structure and stability of the myelin sheath surrounding nerve fibers. PLP was characterized as a core structural myelin protein and has been studied in immune research for its role as a potential antibody target when immune activity involves myelin. As a biomarker, anti-PLP reflects humoral immune recognition of a structural myelin component rather than a direct measure of nerve function or damage.

Elevated anti-PLP levels may indicate measurable immune reactivity against PLP and suggest that immune activity is targeting myelin-associated structures; this pattern can be relevant to symptoms such as altered sensation, motor changes, balance issues, or slowed nerve signaling. Interpretation requires correlation with other Neural Zoomer markers, clinical findings, and diagnostic testing since antibodies are one part of a broader neuroimmune picture. Low or undetectable anti-PLP levels suggest there is no measurable circulating antibody response to PLP at the time of testing.
