Overview and History
Anti-RAGE peptide is an autoantibody (an immunoglobulin) that recognizes peptide sequences of the RAGE protein. RAGE is a multi-ligand receptor expressed on neurons, glia, and vascular cells; it binds molecules such as advanced glycation endproducts, S100 proteins, and HMGB1 and can amplify inflammatory signaling.
RAGE was characterized in the early 1990s and has since been studied for its role in immune signaling, vascular responses, and barrier function. Detecting antibodies against RAGE provides a window into whether the immune system is interacting with this receptor pathway, which can affect cellular signaling and barrier integrity in neural tissues.
Interpreting Highs and Lows
Elevated anti-RAGE peptide levels may indicate immune activation directed at the RAGE receptor pathway. Such activity can be associated with patterns of neuroinflammation, altered barrier signaling, or prior antigen exposure that engages RAGE-related pathways.
Low or absent anti-RAGE levels generally suggest minimal humoral reactivity to RAGE at the time of testing. Interpretation of high or low values should be done alongside the full Neural Zoomer panel and clinical information to distinguish isolated antibody findings from broader neuroimmune patterns.
