α-fodrin is a non-erythroid member of the spectrin family of cytoskeletal proteins. Biochemically it links membrane proteins to the actin cytoskeleton, contributing to membrane stability, cell shape, and intracellular organization—functions especially important in nerve cells and secretory epithelial cells. α-fodrin was identified as an immune target in research exploring tissue-specific antibody responses.
