Overview and History
IFNAR1 is a membrane-bound receptor subunit that forms the functional type I interferon receptor together with IFNAR2. It is classified as a cytokine receptor component and has been studied for its central role in type I interferon signaling since the interferon system was characterized in the late 20th century.
Biologically, IFNAR1 helps transmit extracellular interferon signals into cells by recruiting intracellular signaling molecules that alter gene expression. This signaling controls antiviral defenses, coordinates innate and adaptive immune responses, and influences inflammatory gene programs across many tissues.
Interpreting Highs and Lows
Elevated detection related to IFNAR1 can reflect increased interferon-pathway activity, upregulated receptor expression, or immune recognition of the receptor (for example, antibody binding) depending on the assay. Such patterns are often interpreted as part of enhanced interferon signaling or altered immune signaling dynamics.
Lower detection may indicate normal baseline receptor levels, reduced receptor expression, or diminished interferon responsiveness. Any single IFNAR1 result is most informative when interpreted alongside other Immune Zoomer markers and clinical context to reveal meaningful immune patterns.
