What is Platelet antigens (GPIIb) and Why Does the Immune Zoomer Test for It?

Platelet surface adhesion protein
GPIIb is a platelet surface receptor that helps platelets bind together during clot formation and wound response. Measuring immune reactivity to GPIIb reveals whether the immune system is targeting platelet structures, providing insight into vascular immune activity and platelet-related functional patterns.

Platelet antigens (GPIIb) FAQs

What is Platelet antigens (GPIIb) and why is it important?
GPIIb is a protein on the surface of platelets that helps them stick together during clot formation. It can be recognized by the immune system, and testing looks for immune signals directed at this protein. Those signals can help explain changes in platelet behavior and vascular immune patterns when considered with other test results.
What does it mean if my Platelet antigens (GPIIb) levels are low?
If the test measures antibodies and levels are low, it suggests little immune reactivity directed at GPIIb. If the test measures antigen expression, low levels could reflect fewer platelets or reduced surface expression. In either case, low values are most informative when compared with platelet counts and other Immune Zoomer markers to identify broader patterns.
What does it mean if my Platelet antigens (GPIIb) levels are high?
Higher immune reactivity to GPIIb may indicate that platelets are a target of the immune system and can be associated with changes in platelet clearance or aggregation and signals of vascular immune activity. Elevated antigen exposure can also reflect active platelet activation. Clinical context, platelet counts, and the full panel are needed to interpret what elevated levels mean for an individual.
Why is this biomarker included in the Immune Zoomer?
GPIIb helps identify platelet-targeted immune activity within the vascular domain, allowing providers to see whether platelets contribute to a broader immune pattern. Including this marker supports precise mapping of vascular immune signaling and helps prioritize further evaluation when platelet-related signals appear in the multi-system profile.
