About U1-snRNP B/B′
Overview and History
U1-snRNP B/B′ is one of the protein subunits bound to the U1 small nuclear RNA, forming part of the U1 snRNP complex. This complex is a core element of the spliceosome machinery, which recognizes exon–intron boundaries and contributes to accurate removal of introns from pre-mRNA.
Antibodies that recognize U1-snRNP proteins were identified early in studies of systemic immune reactivity to nuclear components. Biochemically, B and B′ are closely related isoforms that bind U1 RNA and interact with other snRNP proteins; their normal role is structural and functional within nuclear ribonucleoprotein assemblies.
Interpreting Highs and Lows
Elevated immune reactivity to U1-snRNP B/B′ typically reflects the presence of autoantibodies against spliceosomal proteins and may signal broader systemic immune activation or connective-tissue–targeted immune patterns. Low or undetectable levels usually indicate that there is no measurable antibody response to this specific snRNP component at the time of testing.
Results are most informative when viewed with the full Immune Zoomer profile, clinical history, and other laboratory markers, because single-marker changes can be nonspecific and vary over time.
